- THE MOVIES
the show - regular cast - other cast - episodes

Following the defunct Star Trek:Phase II project, and the move into movies not giving Trek fans enough, a new 80's series was being planned... a new generation of Starfleet Personnel for audiences to get used to. Eight characters - set on the USS Enterprise-D - were drafted up, including a French commanding officer (originally named Julian Picard). It's reported that Gene Roddenberry wasn't keen on the Patrick Stewart for the lead role, but he was talked into the casting by his colleagues. He was also talked into creating a 'good' Klingon character. Roddenberry didn't want to, but his colleagues said that it would show that the universe had progressed in the set time of 100 years between Kirk and the presents crew... so Roddenberry created Lt.Worf (Michael Dorn), and said that the character would appear in only 8 episodes, and the role was shared out with the existing security officer, Tasha Yar (Denise Crosby). Fans warmed to the character immediately and the character stayed. This caused problems elsewhere though, and Crosby decided to quit, feeling that her character wasn't being used enough.
The series was accepted by Trek fans, and easily surpassed it's predecessor, lasting seven years. It's believed that the series could have easily lasted longer. The show marked it's transition from third season to fourth (the original series was axed after it's third) with the show's first two-part season cliff-hanger, a stunning Borg story called 'The Best of Both Worlds) which saw the ship's captain assimilated as part of the alien species collective as Locutus of Borg.

| Chief Security Officer, Tasha Yar was killed early on in the Enterprises missions - by an alien entity Armos. A senseless killing that effected the crew deeply... especially Data.
